The workbook guides you through exactly how to find your state homeschool laws.

  • Navigate the curriculum maze.

Through a series of exercises, figure out which type of curriculum is best for you and your family

  • Grow your community and plan your social calendar.

Helpful lists and checklists help you generate ideas for getting outside the house and meeting other homeschooling families.

When I wrote my book, Sarden's Practical Guide: How to Start Homeschooling, I intentionally named it a "practical" guide because I wanted families to have a short, easy to use resource that was free from theory.  I don't know about you, but when it comes to something I have no clue about, I just want someone to tell me what to do and how to do it - they can save their theory for later!

As an extension of my goal of helping families figure it all out, I have developed the accompanying workbook.  In it, you'll find helpful checklists, exercises and, of course, more practical advice on how to get started.

I wrote the workbook specifically for families with school aged children because  I know that these families have entirely different concerns and requirements than people who are planning to homeschool very young children.  It's one thing to decide to homeschool a 5 year old who hasn't yet reached compulsory school age.  It's an altogether different discussion when you're pulling an 8th grader or high schooler out of school and having to plan around graduation requirements and college prep.  And, as the mother of an upper elementary student and middle schooler, I know first hand the worries of the parent with older kids.

If you're thinking about removing your child from school or you've recently done so, this workbook will walk you through everything you need to know in order to get started.  And remember, you don't have to know everything up front but there are a few things that you must get right in order to set yourself up for success early on.

The workbook contains 6 modules that cover:

  • Motivation

Exercises that require to you list out your motivations and goals for homeschooling.

  • Homeschooling Law

Checklist and resource to make sure you have covered all your bases. Do this first!

  • Assessment

Assessment resources and recording worksheet. Because you do need to do your own assessment

  • Socialization

List of socialization ideas, checklist and activities planner.  Naysayers will love to see this.

  • De-schooling

Get ideas for de-schooling and experiential learning and a subject/work done worksheet.

  • Curriculum

Complete exercises that will help you narrow the curriculum and homeschool type that's best for your family.

  • Childcare

By far the biggest challenge to homeschoolers everywhere. We have a worksheet for that!

  • Challenges

Worksheets and exercises to help you work through the typical homeschooling challenges.

  • Expectations

Managing expectations will be the key to having a happy homeschool. I share material from one of my convention workshops on the topic.

Our workbook will allow you to show any naysayers that you have completely and fully thought through your decision to homeschool.  Take time to think through and complete the thought exercises, checklists and planning exercises and show that still unconvinced spouse or opinionated Auntie that you know what you're doing!

The best thing about this workbook is that it comes with the community support found in our Facebook group, How to Homeschool.  There you can ask questions live, attend live trainings and start interacting with other homeschooling families just like yours.
